during my subsequent research I developed a sufficiently straightforward and UV-complete understanding of what probably underlies the quantum world and its evolution at the fundamental level. In particular, I believe that I can answer why there is dynamical evolution, why it can be described by quantum fields that evolve according to a specific action, what the physics can be at the Planck scale, and why we can be reasonably certain that this understanding is correct.

In more details,

a.    I made an explicit simple construction that has the full structure of a Hilbert space with commuting and anticommuting field operators f(x), where x is a spatial coordinate on a slice of spatially separated points. Various species of mutually commuting or anticommuting fields can exist at every spatial point x. (Some of these fields will describe matter and others will give gauge and gravitational degrees of freedom.) We can also identify linearly independent vectors in this Hilbert space that correspond to quantum states with various occupation numbers of the respective bosons and fermions with various momenta.

(Let me note that in this construction we do not need abstract Grassmann numbers for the anticommuting fields and other abstract concepts. The quantum states of a closed evolving self-gravitating physical system correspond to certain “patterns” in arbitrary static arrangement of information, where the carrier of the information is irrelevant: For example, we could consider the information contained in a static pile of sand grains or in bits randomly, or not randomly, recorded to a CD.)

b.    This construction is UV complete. In it we can see why and how the field operators and the eigenstates of operators constructed from them should evolve. The corresponding system has the gravitational and gauge interactions. (Moreover, there is a possibility for a new symmetry that connects matter fields with gauge and gravitational fields.)

c.    In this UV complete construction we can see answers to a number of fundamental questions that involve physics at the Planck scale. For example, within this construction there is a clear answer to the nature of the black hole singularity and to the black hole information paradox.

d.    In this construction we should expect eternal inflation. Moreover, the model resolves concerns raised about inflation by some prominent people, for example, it answers why the current state of the universe is not a more likely fluctuation than an acceptable for inflation initial state of lower entropy.

e.    It appears that if, as experiments indicate, the quantum superposition principle is correct then it is almost inevitable logically that any UV-complete fundamental model should share some key properties with my construction.

Please let me stress that I do not postulate quantum dynamics with a fundamental “elegant” action. Instead, I show how the quantum world, spacetime and rather concrete quantum evolution of fields arise naturally in a very general set of objects of unspecified nature. (Here “concrete” does not forbid landscape yet it does mean restriction on physics of the observable world.)

A similar description entered my application for a two-year grant from John Templeton Foundation submitted on November 15, 2012. In both cases, despite some interest, the recipients indicated major potential problems for securing funding to prepare a publishable write-up of my results. Meanwhile, comparable temporary funding was offered by a private source in my home country.
